My Water Heater is Leaking
If your tank is leaking, we recommend that you turn off the water to the tank. Your water heater tank should have a dedicated shutoff valve on the cold inlet side of the water heater. If this is a gate-style valve (a wheel that turns), turn the valve clockwise as far as you can turn it. If the valve is a ball-style valve, turn the handle 180 degrees. We can help talk you through this if you call us at 610-842-6372.
If this valve is broken, you can shut the water off to your home. Your home should have a main water shut off valve that would stop the flow of water to your entire home. If you are unable to locate this shut off valve, please give us a call and we can schedule a time to come out to your home to help you right away.
Next, you will need to turn off the power supply. If you have an electric water heater, turn the power off at the main electrical pannel. This should be a 30 amp two pole circut breaker. If you have a gas water heater, you can turn off the gas at the dedicated gas shut off valve on the gas line leading to the tank. If your water heater is gas and is vented with pvc plastic pipe, unplug the electrical cord at the receptacle.
** Keep all hot water spigots/faucets (at your
plumbing fixtures) in the closed position. This will keep the rate of water leakage from your Water Heater to a minimum.
I am out of Hot Water (Electric Water Heater)
If you hot has turned to cold, check to see that
the circut breaker is in the on position. The circuit breaker is usually a 30 amp two pole breaker in the main electrical pannel typically located on a wall in your basement or garage.
I am out of Hot Water (Gas Water Heater)
If your hot has turned to cold, check to see if your gas shut off valve at your water heater is in the on position. Also, If your water heater uses LP gas, check to see if there is gas in your outside LP (Propane Tank). If your gas water heater has a electrical plug, check to see that it is pluged in and that the circuit breaker is on. This breaker is typically a 15 amp single pole.
I have a bad leak in a water supply pipe
Your home should have a main water shut off valve that would stop the flow of water to your entire home. This main shut off valve is usually located in your basement. If you have public water utilities, the valve will be located near the water meter. If you have a private water system (Well system), this valve will be located at your well storage tank. This tank is typically a blue, green or tan color. If you are unable to locate this shut off valve, please give us a call and we can schedule a time to come out to your home to help you right away.
